Small clay pebbles for succulent media

Data updated 2026-09-13

This catalog includes a two-pound bag of small-diameter clay pebbles. These 1/8 in ceramsite rocks are used as a lightweight growing medium that provides excellent drainage and aeration for plant roots. They are particularly effective for succulents, orchids, and other plants that require a porous substrate to prevent moisture buildup.

The pebbles are fired at high temperatures to create a durable, pH-neutral material. Because they do not compact over time, they allow air to reach the root zone while retaining just enough moisture for the plant. This makes them a popular choice for aquaponics and aquaculture setups where water flow is constant.

Beyond their functional use in hydroponic systems, these clay rocks serve a decorative purpose. They can be used as a top dressing for indoor pots to create a clean, uniform look. The small size ensures they fit into tight spaces between roots, providing stable support for delicate seedlings or small decorative plants.
